Newk’s Express Café
Philip O’Reilly – Franchise Owner
For today’s review, I’m looking at Newk’s Express Café at the Avenue in Murfreesboro. Granted, this is my first review for http://www.HobNobMurfreesboro.com I fee,l safe enough in this laid-back, down to Earth environment to not have to worry about “does the first review have to be good?” or “do I have to assert myself and make my first review bad?” I can be myself….
Newk’s FavoriteI loved it! The atmosphere was very friendly coming in the door. A fun, laid back aura to the place made it easy to be myself right from walking inside. There were big windows, lots of natural light, bright colors, but it’s a very warm environment. The restaurant had a very easy layout. I could find everything I needed with absolutely no problem.
The service was great and fast. Actually, every employee I could see was smiling, in spiteShrimp Po’Boy of the busy time of day! The woman who brought our food was perky, funny and as nice as can be. She hit all the basics, repeated the order, asked how we were doing and asked if we needed anything else.
The food was plain good. I loved the “Half sandwich and half salad” (smoked ham sandwich with bacon and house salad with balsamic vinaigrette) Ingredients and preparation both were superb. And take it from me, I am a college Spicy Chicken Pizzabachelor… Sandwiches are my life. Kacey’s pepperoni pizza was great. She knocked it out so fast I barely saw it. John is on a diet, so he wasn’t able to eat anything with bread. But he tells me his Diet Coke was awesome!
The price was very fair, especially considering the quality of the experience. Anyone going to the Avenue should expect to get the prime that the city has to offer. Is the $9 a plate ticket worth it? Yes, yes and again, yes.
Was it clean? You better believe it. For the time of day (12:15, the lunch rush was just Club Sandwichbeginning to slow down) I expected a few straw wrappers, just because of how many people were there. But I was very wrong! The floors were clean, glass had no prints, and all the sweet tea (which tasted perfect to this southerner) was full.
Chocolate CakeIf you want a great place to get some good food and have some roaring laughs with friends or family, go to Newk’s. If you want coffee and a calm environment, drive up the street to Thompson Lane.
